XP Local Drive Mapping?

Windows XP does not seem to allow local drive maping
(It will not work using the net use command or tools Map
Network Drive).

It works fine under 2000 and NT4.

Any Ideas?

Lame reply to self:

I should add that I've never attempted to map a local drive in XP, just to
folders.
