XP PRO is loading fine until I login and then it waits on
the background screen for several minutes, then loads
normally. I have plenty of RAM and HD space and did a
recent format. Could this be my network drivers or
something else??

When you re-installed, did you install Anti-virus or Firewalls? These can
try to load before the TCP/IP stack and really slow the boot up time. We
need more details, OK?

I would clear the contents of the windows prefetch folder (
c:\windows\prefetch\ ). Do not delete this folder , just delete the files.
You need to reboot at least 3-5 times to get this folder rebuilt properly
and things should speed up quite a bit.

You might also want to visit Black Viper's website to see about dis-abling
some system services that may not be essential to you particular needs.
Finally, before you make any changes, backup, backup and back up all your
system settings.

Good luck
