anyone have a method to change the loading screen for XP. can't stand the WINXP loading........... images.

I have found a couple of progs that will allow me to hack the ntoskrnl.exe, but has no success at this time.

a couple that ive tried are

reshack.exe
bootxp - prog is not freeware, which is an issue.......to say the least

open to suggestions.

so its really simple apparently. i was way overthinking it.

1. find an image you like and make it 640x480 pixels in 16 colors
2. copy the image to the C:\windows\ as BOOT.BMP
3. Edit the Boot.ini file to add /noguiboot /bootlogo on your boot partition.
4. save the boot.ini and restart

i found a million pages to indicate that you have to use third party software. this softare would only need to be your pic editing software. i recommend saving the file as something other than boot.bmp until you are ready to copy it in. also recommend renaming the original boot.bmp, should you desire to change it back.

there it is. simple and quick. hope it works for you.

Time for me to put my 2 pence in..Honestly why would somebody go through all of this to change the image on a bootscreen that lasts for all of 15 seconds..??????

well.........for the average user at home, it probably doesn't matter. Some people like to mod the OS just to mess with it. for me, it's more of a business application where the XP loading screen isn't desired.

i know that for me, as a home user, i liked being able to change the screen to whatever i wanted. unfortunately, with today's graphics cards, most people don't have images that would look remotely decent under a 16 color palette.

thanks to the hackers..............without them, nobody would be able to do anything.

I had sucess doing that years ago. Since then I have realized it is not worth the effort! Image size has to be just right
