No you may not - the vendor was in breach of the EULA by selling you that
licence - and you were too, by purchasing it. OEM licences are for sale with
hardware only (and hardware usually means a system). If you want Pro you
must purchase it retail.

Just a friendly FYI, the opposite of valid is INvalid.

Never repeat never post a product key to a public newsgroup. That key
that you have posted has probably already been used (or at least
attempted to be used) hundreds of times in the 12 hours or so since
you posted it. It is quite possible that your copy will now be
unusable because the product key will be rejected by product
activation.

You will not be able to upgrade your installed XP Home to XP Pro with
this package. It is intended only for a new computer and will not
upgrade an existing installed copy of Windows. In order to install
this copy of XP Pro you will have to reformat the hard drive, wiping
out your XP Home completely including all of your data and installed
applications. Before doing this you could run the Files And Settings
Transfer Wizard from within XP Home to save the data and configuration
settings to a network drive or a backup device such as CDRW. Then
after you have installed XP Pro and reinstalled your applications you
can run FASTW again to import the saved data and configuration
settings. See the article on using the Files and Settings Transfer
Wizard by former MVP Gary Woodruff:

Also your laptop probably has very proprietary hardware in it,
requiring special drivers from the laptop manufacturer. These will
not be on the XP Pro CD so if you did attempt to install it you would
possibly encounter serious problems with the hardware and it might not
even be usable.

One additional consideration is that by changing the operating system
you may be invalidating any remaining warranty on your laptop. And
finally the original XP Home license for the laptop, assuming that it
was also an OEM version that came bundled with it, will not be
saleable or transferrable to any other computer.

Good luck

Greetings --

An OEM CD cannot be used to perform an upgrade of an earlier OS,
as it was designed to be installed _only_ upon an empty hard drive.
It can still be used to perform a repair installation (a.k.a. an
in-place upgrade) of an existing WinXP installation.
