XP Key - How to locate

My XP home Product key is missing - I sent the machine in to be fixed it was
not there when it came back - I got it back but the drive does not boot -it
seems to work - I can access it in another PC as a slave E: drive but I
need the key to reinstall onto it or a new drive? can I get the key off the
old drive???
PS Microsucks would not give a new key for an OEM Compaq, HP or Dell, - HP
wanted to charge me $45 to generate a new one. (I'll buy a beat up machine
for it's key first)

Have you tried using a program like Everest to display the product key?
