Hello,

Could somebody please advise me on the following:

I installed a program on my computer from a coverdisk and now the computer
simply will not start. It loads up until the last point then restarts and
will not get out of this loop. It does the same if I try and go in safe mode
or start computer with previous settings. I can get to the recovery console
but not sure what to do from there. Is it possible to run the XP restore
program from this console or are there any backup registry files I can copy
to get the computer up and running.

Thanks in advance

Jono

I had a similar problem with my computer. I was able to fix it by using dos. to fix it, start your computer. press f8 when it starts up but before the windows xp loading screen. press it multiple times if you must, as long as the windows startup selection screen comes up. when it does, select the choice that says command prompt in safe mode. a command prompt will appear. enter the command scanreg/restore. it will scan your computer for resent startups.a blue screen will appear and a list of resent startup registry stuff. select a startup number that has 'started' next to it. (as opposed to not started) This will make windows start up using the registry and startup log files that it used on that startup. it will say that it is restoring system files, then a message will come up saying you hav restored a registry with no errors. press enter and windows will start. reply by allanon at (e-mail address removed)
