HI,

My XP Proffesional keeps on crashing.
It shuts down and reboots on various times.
After the reboot a .dump file is created but i cant read
it.
How can i find out why XP is crashing?
How can a read the .dmp file

TIA

System restarts automatically because of a STOP error and if Xp is
configured to "Automatically Restart" on errors. In this case, exact error
is unknown.

So, you want to uncheck the "Automaticall Restart" option and next time,
system wont reboot again. Instead it shows the STOP blue screen. There you
can identify which drivers is causing the error.

Click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and
then click System.
Click the Advanced tab.
Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.
Under System Failure, select the check boxes that correspond to the actions
that you want Windows to perform if a sever error occurs.
Uncheck "Automatically restart"

Hi Dennis,

Ramesh has the best course of action for you. You can also check the system
logs for clues. Start/run eventvwr.msc and click on system.

As to the dump files, if you really want to see what's in them read this:
