XP just won't load

Upon startup, computer will get to the Windows XP startup
screen but go no farther. Will not work in safe mode or
any of the other startup modes. I checked to see what the
computer was doing on startup and it just seems to be
looping everything it does on startup over and over
again. I can't get actually get into windows to try to
fix the problem. If anyone knows what may be causing this
and how to fix it, I would greatly appreciate any help
you could give.

I'm having the exact same problem. I tried doing a repair
from the installation disk and then tried to repair the
Kernel32.dll file (KB article 310396). Now I'm thinking
about reinstalling Windows but I'm concerned about losing
info and creating an even bigger mess. Any/all ideas would
be welcome. Thanks.
