Until a few minutes ago window did not have a problem but now it cannot find
my cd rom drive. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this problem. my drive
is a CyberDrv CW880D CD-R\RW.

Assume you have checked Control Panel/System/Device manager, and also tried
"add new hardware" ... if not, try that. Another possibility is that your
CDR-W drive has failed - test it in another PC.

Should have said in my original message that when I click on the properties
for my device in the device status window i get the following error message:-

Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot
find the hardware device. (Code 41).

Do I need to purchase a new drive or is there a way to fix this.

Try the device in another PC just to confirm, but with that error, it's 99%
certain the CDR-W drive has failed.
Sorry! Len

Another odd thing that can happen is that CD drive(s) can get allocated
unexpected drive letters (I had a C: drive with CDR / CDR=W drives on D and
E - on boot they became J and K, due to failure of one of them - that was on
ME)

Thanks for your help. The problem has now been fixed. It was caused by a
problem with the registry.
