ok, recently i have been trying to install windows xp on
my seagate 80 gb harddrive and formatting goes ok
(although i have to do that outside of the setup to make
it a full size drive) and then when i get into the next
setup screen where it puts the install files on my hdd it
says "could not copy file _____.dll" and it comes up with
different ones each time but usually they are
usually "dm..." files. i have been struggling with this
for many days now and i have tried turning off the cache
just incase to no avail, and everything. can anyone please
help me?

Hi, Richard.

HOW are you trying to install? Is your new drive installed as primary
master? Are any other HDs installed? Are you booting from the WinXP
CD-ROM? Are you upgrading from a prior Windows, or is this a clean
installation of WinXP? Is this a "typical" desktop computer configuration,
or are you using SCSI or RAID or some other special HD connection?
(although i have to do that outside of the setup to make
it a full size drive)

I don't understand this line unless you are trying to use FAT32 on a volume
larger than 32 GB. Why would you choose FAT32; do you plan to install
Win9x/ME on this computer?

Does your PC have a boot sector virus protection turned on in the
BIOS? Try turning it off and try again.
