First of all, Windows XP does not "eat free space". It utilizes drive space
for things like Virtual Memory (the Page File), System Restore Files,
Hibernation Files, and Prefetch Files. Also, the updates installed from
Windows Update require space. You may want to consider purchasing
a larger hard drive and allow XP at least 10GB of space.
1. Open XP's "Help and Support".
2. Look under "Pick a Help topic".
3. Click on "Performance and Maintenance"
You may wish to perform a "tune-up" that may help:
1. Perform a DISK CLEANUP:
(Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup)
2. Go to Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter. In the Command
Prompt window type: CHKDSK /F , and hit enter, answer "yes" and
reboot your computer.
3. Afterward, perform a DEFRAG of your hard drive.
