XP is a good, stable, os

Glenda P.

I read various XP newsgroups every day, and I see so many problems out
there that I just want to give XP a good mention too. I have had my XP Home
since 3 weeks before it was released. I haven't had any serious problems
with the system. I run a good AV (with the update subscription)and
firewall (Norton on both, and yes I have seen problems from users with this,
but not me) I run regular spyware checks with both Ad Aware and Spybot and
have Spybot Blaster installed. I de-frag, do disk cleanup, empty temp files.
I cleaned up the start menu and removed the password screen so boot time is
negligible and I leave the system running most of the time except in sleep
mode at night.
It runs great, hasn't slowed down noticeably in 3 years, I did have to do a
system restore once when I really messed up a software installation because
I should have turned off my AV and didn't, but it restored perfectly.
I just wanted to make these comments because I see so many people
complaining about XP and see all the problems that people have with their
systems. I think XP is very stable compared to my old Win 98 system (It
is a new system now not an upgrade)
I think it is easy to use, and even though it takes a while to find all of
the useful customizations, they are there, and there are great people here
in the newsgroups who can point you in the right direction when you need it.
So if you see all these problems while trying to fix one of your own, take
heart because the system will work right when you treat it right.
Thanks for letting me vent!
Glenda

Hear, hear! I agree with you! Many people deride Xp but I think it is the
most stable and easy to use OS ever. My old Windows 98 machine was a
nightmare. Crashed almost every day!

Hi Glenda.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with XP.

These newsgroups are sort of like a hospital emergency room. There
all you see is people who are sick or injured, and it is therefore a
poor place to use as a guide to the overall health of the whole
community. Same with newsgroups - only people with problems tend to
come here.

I wish people would think a little about analogies before using them. It
happens that the activity in an emergency room, or the hospital in
general, may be the *best* way to to gage the health of the community in
general.

And what conclusions can you draw about the health of the community in
general by observing the activity in the emergency room with zero
knowledge about the external community other than those observations?
