Randy

I had to get a new hard drive after mine had crashed and I
have reinstalled Windows XP home edition within the last
week. My problem is:

When I log onto the internet, an error comes up
saying "This shutdown was initiated by NT
Authority\System" and the Message is "Windows must restart
because the Remote Procedure Call Service terminated
unexpectedly." Does anyone know how to fix this?

I went to do the recommended downloads from Microsoft and
it shuts down before I can download the critical ones.

Any help???

Randy, hopefully someone will contact you real soon. I read your article and I had the same problem. I was told that error is caused by the nasty "Worm" blaster and you need to have a virus program remove it. I could not believe that, that worm loaded that fast after I reloaded XP, I also made a copy of Win XP Sp1 from another computer. I loaded that Sp1 from a CD, which helped, so I am not sure if my problem was the worm. I had the same problems though when I connected to the internet. Maybe this will help!

Good Luck

thanks. I can't find Win XP SP1 on the site. I can only
find Win XP Professional SP1a. Do you think that is ok to
use instead of the SP1 for the home edition?

I am not absolutely certain. I discussed this with other co-workers and they believe you can. I would give it a try.

Yes you can use SP1a.
