xp internet connection

everytime i log onto my xp user account, it automatically
connects me to the internet. plus it signs me on to msn
messsenger. can someone please tell me how to change this
setting? thanks.

Check the START|ALL|STARTUP group. Startup shortcuts can be deleted
there, without affecting the programs that they load.

Individual programs themselves may offer the option to "start when Windows
starts" (or similar language). Disable that.

scroll down to that topic.
 
Start MSM Messenger, go Tools / Options / General - uncheck the boxes
"Automatically run Messenger ..." and "Allow automatic sign in ..."
