xp intermittant

Not sure if this is an ie or XP problem.
reading mail, select a link, right click, launch URL.
1st one works, 2nd launch works or doesn't, if it does, 3rd one may or may not
work.

the 'may not work' means if the url did launch, the next launch may open in a
new window, or it may just launch into the new window already open.

example: htttp://www.thislinkwindow1.com opens in window 1

htttp://www.thislinkwindow2.com opens in window 1 or window 2. It should open
in window 2

htttp://www.thislinkwindow3.com opens in window 2 or 3. It should open in
window 3.

etc.^^^^ for as many times as I smack a link.
It just started. It was working correctly yesterday [below] and yesterday was
relatively virus free.

link 1 opens in window 1
link 2 opens in window 2
link 3 opens in window 3

BTDT. it's intermittent. sometimes it works based on that toggle sometimes it
doesn't. that's why I asked.

you may want to see what this option is set as:

Internet explorer/Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>

'Reuse windows for launching shortcuts'
