Can someone help me with an issue with my XP Pro installation? I installed XP
Pro months ago and it did not recognize most of the programs I had on my
system. Like Frontpage, Dreamweaver, AdobePagemaker, CorelDraw etc, etc. So
it looked like a crap install. Everything did work fine, little slow but,
fine. But now I have the need to use some of the programs and couldn't. I
went into the system and deleted most of the crap and now I'm getting popups
galore. Question(s): When I installed XP Pro should that have deleted
everything on the system that it could not use? And, Can I reinstall XP again
but, would it help?
Thanks for any help

What was the OS you upgraded? What do you mean, XP "didn't recognize" your
applications? What "crap" did you delete, and how did you delete it? It
sounds to me like you need to format and clean install. Before reinstalling
any of your applications, find out if the versions you have are compatible
with XP and then update those that aren't. It's possible that some older
applications will run on XP in compatibility mode--look it up.

All the programs mentioned should be compatible with XP. If
the programs were not installed properly or more likely, you
had some security suite running that prevented changing the
registry entries.

Slow running computers are caused by several
conditions...you need to properly prepare the computer prior
to making software and operating system changes, defrag,
close running programs, disable programs that will interfere
with the installation such as anti-virus or security suites.
You need an adequate amount of RAM and hard drive capacity.
Defrag after the install, too.

Of course you need to have a clean system before the OS
upgrade which means no spyware, viruses or Trojans.

Thanks for the responses. Ok, I upgraded from Win98 second ed. The programs
won't work that were there before because the systems says some of the DLL
and the EXE files needed to run the program are no longer there. How can I do
a format and be able to install XP Pro AGAIN?
Thanks Again.
Paul

Don't format, reinstall the applications but first make sure they are
versions that are compatible with XP. As to removal, it would be better if
you went to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and first removed the
applications but given that we don't have any idea what was deleted, it's
possible you would receive an error message when trying to use this applet
first. Nonetheless, it would be advisable to try Add/Remove first, then
reinstall the applications.

Just reinstall the programs.
