my friend brought a computer from some one who was nice enough to give them
xp home to install on the computer.when they tried to install it they typed
their name and code in ,then the program shut down. From what i can tell this
person has already registered this disc before giving it to them. How can they
delete it from the computer if the program hasnt been completely
installed?will they need to reconfigure to clear the hard drive?

From what I understand is that the computer was bought, but it is unclear if
the WindowsXP version was bought. A WindowsXP version can only be installed
on one computer. If the WindowsXP version together with the key was part of
the buy, then you are the rightfull owner, but if not and you just have a
copy then that's the problem.

When you are the rightfull owner you can reinstall WindowsXP by booting from
the CDROM, then going through the installation procedure. When you need to
input the software key belonging to your WindowsXP version, make sure you
dont make any typo's. Installation will continue if the key is correct.

When you still run into problems please reply with some more information,
providing more details about what happens and at which point in the
installation.
