I am not having any success installing XP Home on a computer I'm
putting together. I have a brand new ASUS A7N8X nForce2 board with
an Athlon 2600+, Maxtor 60, Micron PC2700 RAM (256mb) and a
nVidia FX5200 card.

The BIOS is set for "Optimal" std. settings, no other PCI devices or
external devices are connected. No "aggressive" settings or
overclocking...

My problem is XP either hangs while loading files for installation or I
get a blue screen error right after I exit the format screen and Windows
begins to load.

The error is:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Tech Info:
*** STOP: 0X000000D1 (0X77F6BD39, 0X0000000A, 0X00000000,
0X77F6BD39)

I don't have any idea what this error is, but I suspect it is memory
related? The barebones system came with the CPU/Fan and memory
pre-installed in the case. I added a TEAC CD-ROM (only component
that isn't brand new-drive worked fine in my old P3 case), and a new
60GB/ATA 133 HD and the OS.

The HD is setup on it's own bus and is manually set to Master. The CD-
ROM is on the other ATA bus and is also set to Master.

This problem isn'[t unique to XP Home either, I had the same problem
with my Windows 2000 Professional CD too. And I also used a different
HD, an old Quantum 10GB that was in my other PC.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Raymond

Whenever I have a blue screen or error message at install,
it is almost always, memory or the CDrom drive.
1: Try a different memory module
or try setting the memeory to run at PC2100 in the BIOS
sometimes this shows the memory is not capable on that
mainboard.
2: Try a different CDRom drive. I have had them corrupt
the files copying.

3: Each time you do this, delete the partition and start
over. IF you leave the old files there and they are
corrupted, you won't find out anything.

4: Other possibility is the mainboard is defective.
Rule out everything else first.
