I have been running Windows 98 and just installed XP as a
clean install. I reformatted the Hard Drive and install
went smoothly however I can not get it to recognize my
hardware .. it won't recognize my network card, sound
card, etc. The only hardware it recognizes is my
printer. I installed a second time just in case but same
result. Any suggestions??

Greetings --

Download and install the WinXP-specific device drivers provided by
the respective devices' manufacturers.

Visit the support websites of the manufacturers of your
video card, sound card, NIC card, printer, etc. and search
for Windows XP compatible drivers, download and install
them.

good advice, thanks, but I can't get to the website
since it does not recognize my network card I can't get
onto the internet to look at any websites for support.
This is an install to a different computer and I do not
have internet access without the computer recognizing the
necessary hardware.

I am not sure how to help but I am interested how you
managed to reload xp after formatting your hard drive.

Kevin no magic lol reformatting is an option in the
initial stage of the installation of XP ... is not
different than installing on a brand new Hard drive.

Greetings --

So use whatever computer you're now using to post these messages
to download the necessary drivers and save them to a removable media
for transfer to the newly installed system. At the very least, do so
for the NIC drivers, so you can get the new installation connected.
