The Windows XP compatibility check is complaining about a Microsoft fax
program being installed on a Windows NT 4.0 machine I'm trying to upgrade.
I've read through this group and done some Google searches and the only
suggestion I've been able to find is to try removing Office-which I've done
but still no luck on the upgrade. Any other ideas? Also, is there a way to
force the install to go through even the compatibility checks fails? It's
hard to believe that improper fax software configuration would fail the
entire install and render the system inoperable. Any suggestions
appreciated - Scott

Hi Scott,

Open up My Computer.
Goto Tools, Folder Options
Put a check in show hidden files and folders.
Click on start, then run.
Type in command.
type in cd\ then hit enter
type in dir fxsclnt.exe /s
Remember what directory you found the file in.
Type in exit.
Double click on my computer.
Right click on the c drive and click on explorer.
Find the directory that housed the fxsclnt.exe.
Delete the file and restart.

Then, we should can install the Windows XP now.

Thanks for using Microsoft News Group!

Sincerely,

Steven Liu
