Hi jon,

Possibilities include as scratched CD, a damaged hard drive, or bios-level
antivirus detection schema being active. What to do?

- Make sure BIOS antivirus detection schemes are disabled
- Clean the CD with a soft lint-free cloth
- Use a CD lens cleaner disk in the drive used for installation
- Test the drive with a diagnostic tool from the manufacturer (usually free
for download)

Also, WinXP often has trouble installing to partitions or logical volumes
created by a third party drive overlay. It often helps to allow XP setup to
create and format the installation partition as part of setup.

In addition to what Rick mentioned I've found that flakey RAM is almost
always the cause of this problem. I'd start there first.
