I am attempting to install Windows XP on a New Maxtor 80 Gig Hard drive. The install and copy goes well. After the first reboot, the error comes up "Missing Operating System". I also get this trying to install Win98SE. ANy help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Did you use Maxblast to setup the drive? If so, don't. Remove the existing
partition(s), then create and format new one(s) as part of XP's setup
routine.

I did use the MS Partitions in XP setup. I was also getting the same error when I tried to install Win 98, I also tried to create a 15 Gig partition and still got the same error. I also had a 10 Gig drive and XP tried to install on the 10 Gig Drive partition. It is really strange. Any further ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi EJ,

Then it sounds like something is misconfigured in the system hardware.
Possibly an incorrect jumper placement, or another peice of hardware
interfering. I would remove all unnecessary peripherals, then reseat
cabling, jumper placement, and recheck bios detection settings before trying
again.
