XP install problem

Hello-
I am having problems installing XP on a year old PC. I
installed XP on it originally. I insert the XP CD...(as a
ritual I delete the existing partition and re-create it
on NTFS...and I've tried not doing this as well)...and
after it finishes formatting I get the error
message "Setup was unable to format the partition...the
disk may be damaged"....blah blah blah.
I have tried using 3 different hard drives. I have
tried using a different IDE cable. I am thinking it
might be the IDE controller....but then I would guess I
am screwed if that's the problem. Please advise. Thanks
much!

are you 100 percent sure that the hard disks dont have problems? Have you
tried a different XP install CD? Sounds like a bad hardware issue.

Thank you for your reply. Yes..I am sure the hard disks
don't have a problem. I had the PC up and running with
no problems right before I formatted and re-installed. I
even tried a backup copy we have of XP in case the CD was
bad. Any other suggestions?
