XP install on SATA (not F6 driver related)

Just installed two SATA drives, one WD Raptor 74Gb and one WD 120Gb,
both using Serial data and power cables. SATA1 and SATA2.

Existing dual PATA 60Gb drives still attached ready to copy data across.

Windows installs from CD (using F6 and supplying drivers) just fine, but
on first boot I can't get further than selecting which XP install.

If I choose the new XP install on the 74Gb (10Gb partition) SATA I get a
blank screen - monitor is getting a signal, a big black one.
Ctrl-Alt-Del reboots instantly.

If I choose the old XP install I'm back in business, hence me posting
this here.

So it must be to do with the SATA drive, but I already supplied the
driver during setup. M/Board supports SATA. Tried installing as FAT32
and NTFS.

Thinking about ghosting the old install over the new one...

Other specs:
ABIT IC7 Max 3
P4 3.2 EE
Dual Corsair PC4000

Any suggestions?

hi relic,
This is likely to be hardware rather than xp related. I think you'd have
better luck posting on the abit newsgroup, there's a newish poster on there
with a similar problem to you.

Hmmm maybe a BIOS update?
Thanks, I'll check it out.
