Hello,

Can you use any xp disk to install with, as long as you have the
product key sticker on your pc tower? I have lost my disk ,but I still
have the product key.

home
pro
oem
corporate

and maybe Dell HP Gateway

many varieties but has long as your disk matches your serial (license),
your Ok

depends what edition you have installed and what edition the key is for.
oem or full edition but the key should work if you get a copy of the right
disk

also remember different languages.....

Sounds like pedantic babbling on the terminology "any xp disk".

another great post by the town fool...stop using 'big' words, your POS
'spec-rec' rig won't understand you.

How do you think I spelled it in the first place?
:D
Using speech recognition, my English is significantly easier.

Hey JAD, what happened to your imaginary friend (the kill file)?

Each is different and has a different hash algorythm for verifying
the CD key.

That listing is vague. There are retail and OEM versions of the Home
and Pro versions, and different language versions as the other reply
author mentioned. The Corporate edition doesn't even require a CD
key. And so on.

Yes the poster needs a similar version, but he probably will find
out by experimentation with whatever is available anyway.

The product key is tied to THAT original disk and the hardware configuration
of your computer. So, No.

I inherited a laptop and re-installed from a friend's XP disc using my
legal license which was on a sticker on the laptop. So, I would think
you'd be able to as long as the version of the disc you are using is
similar (language, version, etc.)

That's not true. The disc's are not unique to the key, although I would
assume some keys are specific to some versions.

Maybe it's something like a car accident, s/he just cannot stop staring at
such a tragedy.

From what I read in the ms.pub.winxp.general-group, IF the original was
installed with a retail or oem disk, so long as you use ret.-for-ret. OR
oem-for-oem, any disk will work with the product key sticker on your pc
tower. s
