Installed XP-home in January
Installed game, "Age of Empires" in January.
I could ONLY run the game as "Admin". On my user account, it would not run,
even when the user had full admin priviledges.
ALL WAS RUNNING FINE, until I tried installing the game,
"Mystery of the Nautilus", last week.
It installed OK, but hung after the opening screen, when I tried to start a
game. (tried several times, but hung every time at the same spot.)
After several more tries, I gave up and uninstalled that game.
Then noticed that "Age of Empires" won't run. I get the Windows screen,
saying "Age of Empires II has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Sorry...etc." The data for that error had the code: 0xc0000005.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling a couple of times, to no avail.
I've tried running it in "clean boot" process.
I've tried in "safe mode".
I've tested and proven OK, the CD and drive.
I tried to 'go back' to previous Restore Point, but the Restore won't allow
that, so IT'S not
right either. (I have had occasion to use Restore before, and it DID work.)
I've tried installing the game on a separate physical drive.
(the above tries, are from
http://www.support.microsoft.com/kb/258496#XSLTH3156121123120121120120 )
The "Age of Empires" is actually in two parts, the "Age of Empires II",
and the add-on/upgrade, "The Conquerors" expansion.
The former runs OK, but is gimped, compared to the latter, which won't run.
My system is Athlon CPU, @ 1.53GHz, 512Meg memory, and Radeon VE video card
Any ideas on what to try next?
