XP HOme will not see CD-r/DVD Drives

I recently installed Windows XP home. When I tried to
install the version of EasyCD Creator that came with my
computer(originally Windows Millenium) it warned that
there may be compatability problems. I went ahead and
installed anyway. Big mistake! Now even though I've
uninstalled it I cannot see my CD-R or DVD drive. I even
connected an old external USB CD-R but it didn't
recognize it. Luckily I copied the XP Cd onto my hard
drive so if I add components I don't have to insert the
CD. I cannot seem to get it to work still.

Does anyone know what files to remove/delete to get it to
act as a clean installation of the CD drivers? I'm going
crazy with this one.

Thanks for your help.

Matt,

Have you tired Restore to get the system back to the point before you
installed EasyCD Creator? This should undo the damage of the Adaptec
program, which is definitely NOT XP-compatible. If this doesn't work, I
would suggest a "repair" of your current installation: boot from your
Windows XP CD and choose the "repair" option. This should preserve most of
your registry and settings, but you will have to reload the SP1a and all of
the updates and patches since then...
