XP Home, almost fully updated for all patches and service paks

Some Symptons: IE constantly crashing, can't rollback, video driver was
corrupted (fixed). Can not install Virus protection (installer service not
started). Help crashes. System restore does not complete.

When I try to share (to perform a virus check), I get error indicating the
Server service is not
running. when I try to start the Server service, I get the following error:

error 2001: the specified driver is invalid

In the System log:
Source: Service Control Manager
ID: 7023
Message: the %1 service terminated with the following errorr: %2

App Log:
Source: Perfnet
ID: 2004

Before I reinstall, any suggestions?

Thanks

If you do not have an up to date antivirus program installed on the
computer then there is a very high probability that this behavior is
being caused by a virus infestation.

Try going to http://housecall.trendmicro.com and doing a free online
virus scan of your machine.

Good luck

Tried that a long time ago, but since IE is crashing I can't do it from
there. I have tried Netscape too, but it only gets as far a selecting the
drive page, but doesn't execute

Try doing a Repair Install as per the instructions at
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

That will preserve your installed applications, user data files, and
program configuration settings. However you should have a backup of
all critical data beforehand "just in case". Also all Windows Updates
will have to be reinstalled.

Good luck
