(I looked all over the place but couldn't find any
documents about this in the knowledge base)

I have two identical notebook computers. One needs a new
hard disk. Unfortunately, the original setup disks that
came with notebook #1 have been lost so I'm going to use
the disks from notebook #2.

Question - can I activate the OS on notebook #1, or do I
have to buy another license? The original configuration
was activated so Microsoft should have our registration
info from that time.

Thanks very much!

Kevin

You need a second license or second copy of XP.

You can probably find a less expensive copy of XP at retail than the cost of
the additional license.

To be clear on this, a single copy of XP will activate on only one computer.
If you install on the second computer it will not activate on that setup
once activated on the other setup and if you do not activate, the system
will cease functioning after 30 days.
