I have a Toshiba 1955-S801 laptop computer that came pre-
installed with XP Home. I ran an XP Pro upgrade cd, and
everything went smoothly until the very end, when it
froze on a black screen. I turned the computer off then
on again, and it started up normally, showing the XP Pro
intro screen and then loading the icons on the right side
of the toolbar. Just before it finished, an error message
popped up which said that something could not be found.
The error's name started with //./ , was followed by
three letters I can't remember, and then _Filtr .

Does this mean it didn't install completely? How do I fix
this problem?

If you think you might know but need more info, just let
me know.

Did you run the Windows XP Compatibility Check? Run it, and determine if
there is a compatibility issue with any specific file for your hardware, Ask
Toshiba tech support if you may need any extra drivers or other files.
There is, in the vast majority of cases, no reason at all to move from XP
Home to XP Pro, unless your computer is linked to a large corporate network,
or unless you are a serious web developer who needs to develop and test ASP
code in a local IIS environment. The underlying Windows code in both XP Home
and XP Pro is the same. Byte for byte the same. There is no advantage in
having XP Pro running over XP Home unless you specifically need and use some
of the features in XP Pro.
