well so far the little "click" of the upgrade icon is working ... I now
have about 40Meg of the upgrade into my computer ... I was set to
autoinstall and have a broadband connection ... thought I would get it all
in one setting ... but Microsoft has broken it up over a few days now
(clicked Wed afternoon)... the add/delete panel shows the SP2 hotfixes that
have been downloaded ... the new folder also shows the downloaded files ...
guess I an just waiting for the "I Agree" to pop up .... funny downloaded
the 266Meg verison for a friend onto CD last night (he has a very slow dial
up connection) took only 17 minutes and 10 seconds to get the entire file in
...... but I decided to wait to do the Auto UpDate just to see how long it
would take with a broadband connection ... If and when I get the "I Agree"
window I will let you know ..... then I will be able to let you know the
total time keeping a connection log to see the packets coming in ...
great having a 130Gig HD......

Well it is Monday evening and I got tired of waiting ... got almost 60M in
bits and pieces from AutoUpdate ... tried to hold off but decided to jump
the gun ....

Did a backup of important data as well as running a back up of my email (all
to CD-RW's) .... ran a scan with AdAwareSE and Spybot .... Ran a deep virus
with my SystemSuite5, cleaned up the hard drive, defragged, checked the
registry and defragged it, you know all the normal things I do once a week.
Then bit the bullet ... shut down my SystemSuite5 .... and all extras like
WinPatrol and other security software I run ... and ran
WindowsXp-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe (the full 266M download from Microsoft of
SP2) (yes I put it on CD-R to pass around to all of my less fortunate
friends that do not have a broadband (cable) connection) . .... expecting
the worst from all of the post I have read in the last week ... I run the
file .... Surprise it ran and did just what was advertised ... not a single
problem .. I did turn off the Windows Firewall (I already have one with
SystemSuite5), I did have to allow connections to the changed software to
the network or Internet as asked by SystemSuite ... I have ran all the
software I have on my computer and no problems ... yes the popup windows
telling me about the firewall and anti-virus were a problem for about 10
seconds ... but you can turn them off ... I will say I was worried about
some very "old" software like Office 2000, Age of Empires, ect. and others I
run, but I am sorry to say to all of the "Doom and Gloom" people out there,
but once again I will say no problems ... Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2 did
install trouble free ... I do want to say if you maintain your system the
way you are suppose to, it will make the update as easy as 123 ...
*Do Your Maintance correctly
*BackUp Important files (just incase)
*Shutdown your third-party firewall and your virus scanner
*Shut down anything else running that doesn't need to be running (WinPatrol,
TeaTimer(Spybot), or any other security software you have running in the
background)
*And just run the UpDate.
No Slooooowwwww downs
No problems
In fact seems to boot up much faster
