I had put XP Prof. on my old PC. When I purchased my new
PC it came with XP Home. However, I want to change that
to the Professional software (that I had purchased
previously). As of now, it's a useless purchase (not
being used).

Has anyone done this, and if so .. what (if any) kind of
problems/issues were there, and are there any certain
precautions that I should be aware of? How will this
affect the "Recovery" info & CD, should I ever need them?
I was told by a friend that I would lose alot of data
doing this .. but .. I'm here to ask the pro's (wink).

Anxiously, waiting .. thanks!

If you have the Retail Upgrade version of Windows XP Pro and if you
have removed it from the computer that it was previously installed on
then you can install it on the new computer. The retail upgrade
version of XP Pro will upgrade XP Home to XP Pro with no problems,
even though that specific upgrade is not listed on the specifications.

If your XP Pro is an OEM version then that license is permanently
locked to the first computer that it was installed on and it cannot be
transferred to another computer, even if the first computer has been
scrapped, destroyed or stolen.

Hope this clarifies the situation.

Good luck
