Any reason why Windows XP Home thinks I have a two processor motherboard?
Can this be causing any problems?

Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60GHz (2 CPUs)

Russ

Windows XP is capable of taking advantage of more than 1 CPU on a
mainboard(I believe it's called "Hyperthreading"). I believe it is related
to a particular key in the registery. I can't remember which key it is since
I have no use for it. But you can go to www.infoprosjoint.net and post your
problem on the forums. They definetly will be able to help you more than I
can. They are THE BEST tech forum on the internet and are not standoffish to
non-tech heads. Good Luck and I hope I poimted you in the right direction,
at least.

Er, because you have a HyperThreading CPU, perhaps?

Partially true - XP Pro can utilise 2 CPUs - Home only one.

(I believe it's called "Hyperthreading").

No, it isn't. HyperThreading is the technology, developed by Intel, which
gives the illusion of two processors in order to speed up number crunching.

No it isn't. If you have a HT-capable CPU then it's controlled via the BIOS.

I can't remember which
key it is since I have no use for it.

There is no key.

He doesn't have a problem - he has a HT CPU.

No you didn't.

on a HT CPU you will see 2 cpu's ...one real and one virtual....

you don't have a problem

Thanks. I had not read anything anywhere that HT would cause windows to
show 2 CPU's..
