Have an E-machine that has worked great in an office enviroment for many
years. I thought it was time for a system restore (OEM) to get all the old
crap out of it and used the system restore CD's to do this. Now system goes
thru the start up screen and an error message come up that says "...sorry
for the inconvience, but windows did not start properly..." and gives me the
choice of Start windows normally...and all the SAFE mode options. Have
tried all of them, system restarts and does the same thing again....looping
endlessly. Have tried the restore process 3 times, same results. Any
suggestions??? TIA

That's a VERY bad idea - "many years" = pre-SP2, thus...
- firewall off by duhfault
- fully-exploitable RPC and LSASS surfaces waved at the 'net
- loss of all other patches and defenses
....so you'd be malware'd within minutes of hitting the 'net.
