Just got two Belkin UPSs, and 900 and an 1100VA. Put the 900 on the XP Home
machine, plugged in the USB cable, and got the Hardware Detected spiel. when
it was done, the power panel showed a Belkin UPS.
Did the same for the XP PRO. Detect an HID Human Interface device. Still
NONE for UPS on the power panel....
The XP Pro used to have an APC UPS on it, if that makes any difference.
Any ideas? I'd rather not install the vendor software if I don't have to...

Make sure the UPS Service is running.
Did the APC have any software with it? If so, uninstall it.
Why not install the vendor software?

I have a 1250 Belkin on USB it shows as a HID, there software is OK but their runtimes are not as
advertised.

The s/w that came with the UPS wants to look at the LAN for other UPSs and
does some kludgy net.exe and ipconfig.exe calls. Really just a preference.
I suspect I'll take a look at their alternate s/w, the Bulldog stuff and see
if it is any improvement.
