XP Home - Reactivation

I updated the firmware on my Lite-On 52327S and whne I was
done I rebooted my machine. When it came back on Windows
said it detected "Major Hardware Changes" and I only had 3
days to reactivate Windows. It's the only thing I've
changed at all (although I was planning to put a floppy
drive in and change the PCI slot my soundcard is in). I
investigated reactivation and found out it isn't supposed
to ask unless I changed 6 things or so. I tried to
reactivate Windows with the key i installed XP with but it
says it was used too many times (once?). Is there any way
to get rid of this without buying a new key?

just 'phone MS on the toll-free number and tell them what you have done.
They should give you an activation code without any quibbles.

Call This Number to Activate: Explain your problem,
Don't take any crap. Be nice ,but forceful. Ask for a
supervisor if you have a problem. Ask for their name.

Call (800) 426-9400, and explain the situation.

Maybe you have changes that have happened but been forgotten, and this
has pushed things over the edge. If the hardware was within speaking
distance of the original state, then you would be able to get on the net
and activate: the 'hash' description of your hardware that is being sent
across is not a good enough match. So it is saying that it appears to
have been installed on more than the one machine it is licensed for.

I'd suggest making sure, in Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device
Manager, that you have not disabled anything significant (especially the
Network adapter) and give it another try,

, if not you will have to activate by phone (the other option given at
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Activate Windows)
and call the toll free number that will be given, where you will be
asked to confirm that you have not installed on more than one machine,
and swap one long number for another to type in. A Minor hassle only.

Pleas stop giving that number, it may not apply to everyone on this
earth.
