I know this sound like a commercial but I do not work for Staples or anyone
else for that matter. I'm fully retired now.

To answer your question: They sell a pen called a "Liquid Sharpie." this is
a permanent marker and works well in writing your Key onto the disk itself.
That way you will always have the key available unless you misplace the
disk.

Always keep those on hand at my computer desk. Besides recording the number
on the CD with the Sharpie pen, I keep an Excel file with program names and
product key/license numbers for installed software. I try to remember to
print out a new copy whenever that file gets updated. Most of the time I
remember ;)

I store mine in an application called Password Agent:

Since most application CDs no longer include a jewel case, I always have
plenty of empties on hand. I keep the CD protected in the jewel case and I
print an insert for the case with the application name and CD Key.

I use CD notebooks for storage. A big one for current setup (O/S, apps and
drivers). A few smaller ones for legacy apps that I can't bear to throw
away. One for system images and backups, a few for data "sets" (graphics,
game saves and the like).

You're fancier than I am when it comes to inserts. You print and insert. I
rip the sticker off the packages and slap it onto the sleeve holding the
CD. ;)

Not so fancy really, I use the Easy CD Creator Label Creator plain Generic
theme printed on plain whit paper!<LOL>
