XP Home poor performance

After the PC boots, XP Home runs at a very slow pace.
The CPU usage for iexplorer is 96% to 98%. If I end this
program, everything runs fine for a while. Iexplorer
does not show as running on the taskbar, but does show on
the system monitor report. What is causing iexplorer to
run at this high of CPU usage immediately after startup?

Ted what's this sytem monitor report. This the second
post where they are stating that iexplorer is 97 % in
system monitor but iexplorer doesn't show iexplorer? I've
been bumbling around in system monitor and can only come
up with Pages/sec, Avg.Disk queue length and % Processor
Time. Did I miss the class on this?

If you haven't got software on your machine which
protects you from:
- spyware
- ad ware
- viruses

then your machine could well have the above. Machine
being really slow is a prime example of the above.

free software from www.2cows.com
find and download 'AdWare' prgram and 'Spybot - search
and destroy'. immediately do a 'scan for UPDATES' and
then run the programs. They will detect stuff which
shouldn't be on there and ask if you want it removed.

As for viruses- you will need to source an appropriate
virus program.

If you machine is SO slow you cannot download the above,
suggest using a friends machine and burn them onto CD.
