xp home passowrd (admin)

I managed to lose my admin password. Don't ask me how I did it; I did it.
What are my options? I don't trust those 'solutions' that they provide on
the net. What do I lose if I would re-install XP.

usually the "Admin" password is blank which means there is no password.

"Admin" account is not the same as an account with "admin privileges"!!

Thanks for the feedback, my Dell Win XP CD did not help as it got stuck.
Somebody (other group) told me to start up in safe mode, (hit the F8 on
start up) to my surprise it was extremely easy to change the password.
Apparently it is not secured very well.. fortunately.
Your link also brings me to MS site where they mention the safe mode method.
I had tried that earlier, but for some reason it did not work then.

That's only if the computer owner is more than a little "unaware" of
security considerations.

"Admin" account is not the same as an account with "admin privileges"!!

If you got in through SafeMode->Administator account, did it have a
password? If not, please set one up..
