David, you can perform a dual boot with XP Home as both OS's. Just make
sure you have the first drive connected.
The second drive will install a clean version of WinXP Home and
reconfigure your boot.ini file to include both OS's.
Boot from the WinXP CD and select New Install>Advanced. Which will
allow you to choose the drive or partition to
install XP.

Hello.

Can the same copy/license of XP Home be installed on two seperate hard
drives that are installed in the same system. Wanting to boot to two
different drives but on the same computer. Obviously only one at a
time.

Thanx

Thiers no problem doing that, just physically disconnect youre other hds
while you install xp,and any other devices-printers,etc...

A Windows XP license can only be used once on
one computer. A second installation requires a second
license.

From the Windows XP EULA:

1.1 Installation and use. You may install, use, access,
display and run one copy of the Software on a single
computer, such as a workstation, terminal or other
device ("Workstation Computer"). The Software may not
be used by more than two (2) processors at any one
time on any single Workstation Computer.

Please read your End-User License Agreement by going
to Start > Run and type: WINVER , and hit enter. Then
click on "End-User License Agreement".

If you already have a retail copy of Windows XP, you can obtain
additional licenses for another computer or laptop by visiting the
following Microsoft Web site:

David,

Are you asking whether it is physically possible to do this, or are you
asking whether or not you would have a problem with activation and updates
through MS since you have XP (with a restrictive license). I've wanted to
do this also (using a hard drive lock/switch) but I wonder if it would be a
problem with both drives retrieving updates all the time.

Don

Just to confirm:
Can I use the same product key for both installs? Or will this cause a
activation problem?

Hi,

No it won't cause an activation problem as the hardware hash will be the
same. Technically, the license is for one installation, but there is nothing
to prevent you from installing and activating twice on the same machine.
Actually, this scenario (normally referred to as a parallel installation) is
commonly used as a method of recovery by many, myself included.

That would be an awfully stupid thing to do. How would WinXP be able
to detect the first installation and then automatically create the
dual-boot menu?

C'mon, Andrew. Even a broken clock is right twice a day; your batting
average is much lower.
