Hey Guys,

Ive got a XP Home machine running a DOS based POS system. When the program
is idle, NTVDM.EXE is still running at 99% cpu, and its overheating the
machine as well as making it useless for anything else. Any hints?

Cheers,

Ky

You have a 16 bit process - this is what they do. NTVDM is the NT Virtual
Dos Machine. However, it should not cause the machine to overheat. I would
look at the cpu fan and check it for crud, fluff and tribbles. The only real
cure is to update the app to something based on 32bit code.

Damn.

Its running on 2 machines, one a celeron and on a p4....the celery gets hot,
but doesnt overheat. The p4 overheats a bit because its used for other
things as well.

I cant beleive Microsoft just gave up on 16 bit support like this. Possibly
8-9 years of dev work down the drain.
