I have xp home edition, i was attempting to turn on
firewall protection on my network connection. However,
when i go to start, control panel, and select network
connections, i have a dialup connection (that i don't use)
and a bridged connection, with 3 icons under it, the first
is call network bridge, here i set my ip address, the
others one is a lan connection, the other is 1394
connection, nothing really to change on either of those
connections.

How can I enable firewall protection on this bridged
network connection ?

When network connections are bridged, they lose their individual
settings to the network bridge itself. However, it isn't possible to
firewall the network bridge.

I assume that you're not using the 1394 (FireWire) network connection.
If that's the case:

1. Remove the network bridge by right clicking it and clicking Delete.
2. Enter the ip address settings on the lan connection.
3. Enable the firewall on the lan connection.

Be aware that enabling XP's firewall will block File and Printer
Sharing on the lan connection. If your lan connects to the Internet
through a broadband router, the router itself acts as a firewall, and
there's no benefit to enabling XP's firewall.
