XP home network and hardware sharing

I have a 3 computer network at home and on one computer
(not the "server" I have a scsi based scanner. I cannot
"see" that scanner from the server nor access it. Any
suggestions why?

afaik you can only use a scanner on the computer that's hosting it.
Following up on another news query once, some companies have produced
software to allow sharing for document management systems, but Ive a feeling
there may not be any freeware to do it.
