hi
just asking the question again
anyone know why my xp home disc
is labled XRMHOEM_EN.
rather than "windows xp home edition"

when recently i was requested to insert my xp disc
my pc didnt appear to recognise it.

I assume this disk was supplied by your system manufacturer. If that's the
case you might want to ask them as they supplied it.

My guess is that this is either a restore disk or some other type of disk
that has an image of your entire setup as it was when you purchased it.
This is not an actual XP CD though it does allow you to recover your setup,
albeit, by resetting it to its factory fresh condition.

The disk was likely not recognized because it is proprietary and designed
only to restore your setup and nothing else.

thanks
i wonder if the shop installed from a different xp disc
mine was definitely sealed when i got it home.
but then again, i have registered my copy of xp
mmmmmm?????

Registration is different from Activation and activation would be the real
test. Shop may have an image that they install under special license which
allows them to install it on multiple machines while they supply a sealed
disk which has its own CD-key which must be used independent of the image
originally installed. In other words, if you download one of those CD
keyfinders, you might find that the key listed for the image originally
installed on your system is actually different from the key supplied to you
for reinstall using the CD that came with your setup. Of course, if you've
already used that CD, it would have the key you used to install it.
