I have two XP Home computers and two XP Pro computers on the same network I
want to use with DLink DSM-G600 Network Attached Storage Device. The NAS is
setup to require authentication and uses its own users and passwords by which
to authenticate. The names and passwords used on the NAS are different from
those used to login to the XP boxes. The XP Home machines are on the same
workgroup as the NAS and the XP Pro machines are on a domain. I can go into
network places and enter the NAS logon credentials in my XP Pro boxes and it
works fine. On the XP Home boxes, there is no add button for adding
authentication credentials for Network Places, only edit and delete buttons.
When you double click the network object to logon, the logon prompt does not
allow you to change the username provided of DSM-600\Guest, but provides a
field for a password. I have went as far as entering the user name Guest in
the NAS, but it still will not authenticate against the box. I am pulling my
hair out trying to get around this problem. Any help would be appreciated
before I go out and get XP Pro upgrades.
