Does XP home limit the number of users that can access the
host computer on a peer to peer network? And if so, will
upgrading the host to XP Pro solve the lmited access
problem? If XP Pro is not a solution, what else can we do?
We have 8 computers running Win-98, Win-2000, and Win-ME
and having trouble with users not being able to access the
host. Someone please help! We are going crazy trying to
get everyone on the network at the same time. Thank you!

For Windows XP Home Edition, the maximum number of other computers
that are permitted to simultaneously connect over a network is five (5).

For Windows XP Professional, the maximum number of other computers
that are permitted to simultaneously connect over a network is ten (10).
This limit includes all transports and resource sharing protocols combined.

You'll need to purchase a true server O/S for your environment.
Why not try Windows 2003 Server free for 180 days?

How do I go about doing that? What is involved? In the
meantime, I can upgrade the host to XP Pro and be ok until
I exceed 10 clients???

XP Home limits you to five simultaneous connections across the net: Pro
allows ten (which would meet your needs). You would need an XP Pro
Upgrade edition and run it from the existing Home system to Install as
the default Upgrade. Don't worry that the box does not refer to
upgrading Home
