I have a computer in for repair which has a crashed hard drive.
After replacing the hard drive i would like to re-image it with XP home as
they have a paid for license. Is there a channel i can obtain the source disc
from in order to do this as the customer doesn't have recovery discs and they
have already paid once for the license.

OEM license? (Sticker on the machine?)
Then you contact the original seller of the system.

You, or the careless customer, will have to contact the PC's
manufacturer to obtain the correct OEM reinstallation media.

You need to inform the customer that you are not qualified to do the repair.
I am sure the customer has valuble data on the hard drive that they would
like to retrive. You seem to be woefully unqualified and cavalier about your
ability to "repair" the system. Please give the "customer" another option
other than yourself.

1. Crashed hard drive -- If it's really failed completely, and data needs to
be saved, the customer will end up spending about $500 to have specialized
recovery services. Even with that there is usually no guarantee.

If the customer does not have the the original CDs or repair CD's the only
choices are to obtain them, or to purchase a new copy of windows.
