The loading screen for XP Home with the little yellow/green bar takes about 2-3 minutes to load. It should only take about 12 sesconds. It has loaded quickly before but now I don't know what's wrong. What's the dead? pealse help

Hi G., among a few other possibilities, it could have
something to do with the amount of programs starting
along with the computer itself. To see what programs are
starting up when you start your computer, click start,
then run. Type in msconfig and hit enter. Go to the
startup tab (last one to the right) and all of the
checked boxes are the ones that get going when you turn
on your computer. If there are a bunch of checked boxes,
you need to find out which ones are necessary and uncheck
the remainder. That should get you up and going a little
OR a lot quicker. Wayne B.

I just started to have the same problem about a week
ago. It takes about 7 minutes for me to boot up when it
used to take a couple of minutes. I had already tried
your suggestion and also system restored from an earlier
date in December. I am still having the same problem
nothing seems to work. I'm open to any other suggestions

Don't know if this will work but eventually I found I had a virus which was causing everything to work at snail's pace. Open Task Manager (Ctrl/Alt/Delete) - click on tab "Processes" - click on "Image Name" to put them in alphabetical order. Scroll down to svchost.exe - several of them -apparently CPU for these should be 0 - also have alook at CPU Usage at bottom -if it is at 100% probably means you have caught the virus I caught - no reserve to run anything- if it is very low that what I have said above does not apply- I'll write more if it is necessary. No - don't write any more. What you've written so far is wrong enough.
