Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite P4 2.40 GHZ with 512 mb ram. and for the
last couple of weeks, I have been facing this weird problem with
Windows XP. When I download a program and try to install it, like
other users, I used double click on the either the "setup" or the
"install" files, and the program would start installing itself. Now
when I try to install applications, I double click on the setup file,
nothing happens... Restart the computer, click again, and it works...
First I thought I had some sort of a virus or a worm, even though I
had norton antivirus installed and enabled on my system.. Checked with
an online antivirus software at antivirus.com... nothing... Then tried
defreagmenting the disk to allow system work faster and more
efficient.. nothing... at last I decided to share my problem with you
guys... if anyone knows a solution to this would you please e-mail me
at (e-mail address removed) . My guess is Norton antivirus or my wi-fi
system's firewall is blocking the exe files somehow...

Hi,,,,,,, If you look to the left of this window you will see a list of links for XP. Scroll down and you will see the application compatibility link. Click on it and do some research on the programs you are having a problem with. Not all applications are compatible..................Take Care............ : )

i realise that some applications are not compatible with xp, but my
problem is probably something else since after restarting the
computer, i can install the same application (that i couldn't install)
as if nothing had happened a minute ago... thanks anyway for your
effort...

Does this only happen on files that you freshly downloaded?

Since you suspect your Anti-virus software (and often this software is
the root-cause of strangeness), try turn it off for both the download
and the first launch (but assure yourself the downloaded file is virus
free).

Do you do a lot of downloads?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Not really, this problem doesn't have spesific times that it
happens... One last problem I have faced was when I was working with
Photoshop and Macromedia Dreamweaver at the same time and switch
between two programs, I couldn't see the submenus of File , Edit
etc... but when I close one of those programs the other program lets
me access the submenus... This has been happening for the last 2-3
days...
I'm a web designer, and try new softwares that could be helpful to my
work... So yes, i do a lot downloads, but each time I download a
program, I first make sure it doesn't have any viruses...
I'm sure I don't have a virus since I have checked with both Norton
and online from antivirus.com...

Any suggestions?
