I have, till now, believed XP Home does NOT support hyperthreading but now
doubt that.

So, can anyone point me to an authoritative URL that supports facts one way
or the other please? I am in the process of looking on the web for myself
but any URLs provided will be appreciated. Thanks.

Both Windows XP Home and Pro support Hyper-Threading.
However, you must have both a motherboard and an Intel P4
processor that also supports H-T.

And what on earth makes you think it doesn't?! It's still ONE processor, the
second is simulated. It doesn't support two PHYSICAL processors.

Trust me, XP Home DOES support Intel Hyperthreading Technology, assuming you
have a suitable processor and motherboard.
If you want it in writing:

Thanks for that. The more I looked, the more I became aware that it wasn't
hyperthreading but Pro supports dual processors and I think I became mixed
up somewhere along the line when reading about this, with those two points.
Home apparently doesn't support dual processors. Have I got that right?

Any reason for the attitude?

What attitude?! Perfectly reasonable question.

I asked a question, I explained what I used to believe and that I now think
I am wrong and you act as if I am a turd on your shoe for doing all this.
THAT is an attitude!

I agree Cerridwen did seem a bit snappy

Correct. XP Home doesn't support dual physical processors, for licensing
reasons, but an Intel Pentium 4 processor with Hyper-Threading technology is
considered for licensing reasons to be a single processor - even though it
appears to the system as "two" processors.

Thanks for that. Not sure if I quite understand all that but close enough.
